苏馥兰(Naomi Lam)宣布参于糖城市議員競選 ![]() 世界名人网讯 2012年3月17日,曾擔任福遍學區委員的糖城华裔居民苏馥兰(Naomi Lam)女士宣布参于糖城市議員競選。之前苏馥兰(Naomi Lam)已经完成了糖城市議員競選登记。以下是苏馥兰(Naomi Lam)竞选总部刚刚发来的新闻稿:
苏馥兰(Naomi Lam)宣布参于糖城市議員競選經過多年的開發,糖城己成為全美發展最快的城市之一。大家都喜歡搬到糖城來居住,不僅是因為它有優良的學區而且有良好都市計畫,美麗都市環境,公寓少,犯罪率低。現今糖城土地越來越稀少,地價也越來越貴。為了提高利潤,糖城建築商打算在糖城提倡多建造公寓:(1)2008年糖城市議會通過Riverstone社區計劃,在 Oilfield Road and University Boulevard交界口開建六百(600)單位的公寓。同時己批准建築商修一條馬路直穿過Sweetwater 社區。這些將造成交通繁雜。住在Sweetwater, Commonwealth,以及Avalon的居民因而受到影響。 (2)2011年糖城市議會通過Telfair社區四百(400)單位公寓方案。 Telfair小學校己經非常擁擠,四百個公寓將給該社區帶來小學就學問題。(3)糖城糖廠歷史古跡地區附近有六百二十五(625)單位個公寓己經過初期審核,很可能會被批准,因此給糖廠附近區民帶來交通繁忙,同時影響到居民安全。 居民都希望能居住在一個環境優良的城市,有好的學區,犯罪率低,而且交通方便。 公寓的擴建必然會替糖城帶來頁面的影響,進而使糖城房價受到影響而下跌。這是我們糖城居民最不願意看到的。以上這些公寓的建造還沒開始,雖然有些計劃已經被通過,市議員還是有權力過問,比如規定建商必需蓋高檔公寓,管理交通流動方向,限制廠商在糖城其他社區建造公寓等。 由於居民的要求,我决定出來代表居民参于糖城市議員競選。如果我能當選,我會把居民心聲與需求帶到市議會。而且希望能利用我的學識,以及多年來對房地產投資與管理經驗,加上曾擔任福遍學區委員的經驗,幫助糖城市政府選擇一條正確發展的路線,全力為大衆服務。
I humbly ask for your vote and support on Election Day, May 12th.Dear Sugar Land Neighbors, Progress at What Price? Economic development is important, but should it displace residents, overload existing roads with traffic congestion, create drainage problems, and promote extensive multi-family housing that may not yield positive results? Imperial Sugar Area Ask north-side residents how they feel about the 625 units proposed for construction in the Imperial Sugar area and recommended by the Planning and Zoning (P & Z) Commission. Most residents wanted zero units. The vibrant and historic north-side community is facing an influx of traffic resulting in congested streets, the possibility of drainage problems, overcrowding, and multi-family units that may not yield the type of high-end rental fees touted by developers. Homeowners moved to Sugar Land because it was a zoned, master-planned community. The City’s history has always been one that supported home ownership over apartment renters. Home ownership is the reason for the success of Sugar Land. Will homeowners have to flee the influx of apartments? Why has the City abandoned the home ownership model against the citizens’ wishes? Generations of families have chosen to live in the north side. They may be pushed out of their own homes in the future because imprudent decision makers are more concerned with short-term profits than with preserving the legacy of community in established neighborhoods. Sweetwater In 2008, City Council passed a proposal for 600 units for a single site at the corner of University and Oilfield Road in Riverstone. The LJ Parkway will go through Palm Royal Boulevard to create access for Riverstone residents. This will affect the quality of life for residents in the Sweetwater, Commonwealth, and Avalon subdivisions, and there is a strong possibility that property in Sweetwater will be devalued. Telfair Additionally, City Council approved 400 multi-family units for construction in Telfair. What are the implications for property values, schools, and city services? The use of PD planning, instead of traditional zoning used previously, is a free pass for developers to return to unfavorable development for homeowners. Accountability If decisions are made that contradict and override the City of Sugar Land’s governing documents, who will represent the concerns of voters? Has the role of P&Z been compromised?
