Houston Auto Show Honors First Responders
Motorist Assistance Program Receives Four New Fleet Trucks and Auto Show honors Houston emergency services agencies.
HOUSTON (Jan. 22, 2018) –Nearly 2,000 people were rescued in Houston during the historical and detrimental rain brought by Hurricane Harvey. During times of distress, first responders selflessly arise to the occasion to help others in need. Their actions not only saved many lives but also enabled the city to become Houston strong.
To honor those of service, the Houston Auto Show and the Houston Auto Dealers Association (HADA) is proud to host a First Responders Day on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 at the NRG Center. First responders with a valid employment I.D. are able to enter the Houston Auto Show for just $1.
“An integral part of Houston new car dealers is the local communities that surround dealerships,” said RoShelle Salinas, vice president of HADA. “Finding ways to honor community members is a core value of HADA. The Houston Auto Show is the perfect vehicle to spread our appreciation and recognize the teams that are so important to the Houston community.”
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department, as well as other first responder agencies will attend a special ceremony held at 11:30 a.m. in the lobby of NRG Center. During this ceremony, the Motorist Assistance Program will be presented with their new trucks for 2018.
Over the last 35 years, the Houston Automobile Dealers Association has presented 119 vehicles to the Motorist Assistance Program (MAP) and plans to continue that tradition during the ceremony of appreciation for Houston first responders. Four new Ford F-150s used for roadside rescues across Houston will be presented to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department during the special ceremony. MAP officers travel hundreds of miles on Houston-area freeways each weekday between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. keeping a watchful eye for motorists who need fuel or other basic roadside assistance. Since its inception, more than 800,000 motorists have received free assistance from MAP.
“The road to recovery from Hurricane Harvey has been tough for many Houstonians, but as we’re all moving forward, it is essential to celebrate and honor those who were so brave,” stated RoShelle Salinas, vice president of HADA.
The 2018 Houston Auto Show First Responders Appreciation Day at the NRG Center – Rotunda Lobby will be held, Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. followed by the opening of the Auto Show at noon. Tickets will be discounted for first responder employees to just $1. For more information on Auto Show hours visit www.houstonautoshow.com.
